We first have to find the least common denominator. In this case that is 15. To get 3 to 15 we have to multiply it by 5 so we multiply the fraction 1/3 by 5/5. We get 5/15. To get 5 to 15 we have to multiply it by 3 so we multiply the fraction 4/5 by 3/3. We get 12/15. We then add the tops of the top part of each fraction, so 5+12 that gets us 17/15. We then have to simplify the fraction, 15 goes into 17/15 1 and 2/15 times. So our answer is 1 2/15
