Can x-2 ever be less than 0? Why or why not?

    Of course it can. It always is if 'x' is less than 2.

    Yes, it can.

    See inequality:

    x-2 < 0

    x < 2

    So, any value of x smaller than 2 become x - 2 a negative result.
