Two cars leave a rest stop at the same time and proceed to travel down the highway in the same direction. One travels at an average rate of 46 miles per hour, and the other at an average rate of 68 miles per hour. How far apart are the two cars after 2.5 hours?

    The difference in their speed is:

    68 - 46 = 22 miles per hour.

    Multiply the difference by the time:

    22 miles per hour x 2.5 hours = 55 miles

    They are 55 miles apart.
