    He walked 5 miles in 1 hour and travelled for 30 miles in 1/2 an hour.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    I guess you want to know for how long he walked and/or how long he rode the bus.

    Assume he walked x miles so he travelled by bus (35 - x) miles.

    Then the time he walked can be found from

    5 = x / t so t = x/5.

    Then the time he travelled by bus = (1.5 - t) = (35 - x) / 60.

    Therefore from the last 2 equations

    x/5 + (35 - x) / 60 = 1.5 Multiply through by 60:

    12x + 35 - x = 90

    11x = 55

    x = 5 = the distance he walked and he walked this in 5/5 = 1 hour.

    The time he travelled by bus is 0.5 hours and the distance is 35-5 = 30 miles.
