    When it comes to word problems the word "OF" signifies multiplication. Such as "Pam had 3 sets of coasters, each set had 4 coasters ... 3 sets of 4 would be 3 (4) = 12 coasters ...

    For this problem we have "three-eighths of $76,000" = (3/8) (76000) = $28,500
