While planning a hiking trip, you examine a map of the trail you are going on hike. The scale on the map shows that 2 inches represents 5 miles. If the trail measures 16 inches on the map, how long is the trail?

    The trail is 40 miles. Each 5 miles equals 2 inches and there are 8 sets of 2 inches in 16 so 8 times 5 is 40.
