A positive number is 5 times another number if wee subtract 1 from the larger and add 3 to the smaller then one of them becomes 3 times the other

    Make the big number x and the small y

    5y=x; x-1 = (y+3) 3; now substitute. 5y-1 = 3y+9. 2y=10 y is 5x is 25
