    X = 17/6

    Steps:

    1. Simplify both sides of the equation.

    (1/2x+x) + (1-1/4) = 5 (Combine like terms)

    -> 3/2x+3/4=5

    2. Subtract 3/4 from both sides.

    3/2x+3/4=5

    -3/4 - 3/4

    3/2x=17/4

    3. Flip 3/2 then multiply both sides by 2/3.

    (2/3) 3/2x=17/4 (2/3)

    X=17/6
