How do I find what x equals

    basically, you get x to one side and the number to another side, then simplify. For example, 3x-2=x+6. The steps are:

    2x-2=6, here we brought the x to the other side by subtracting an x from each side. Since the x was positive (adding) we subtract x from each side.

    2x=8, we did the same thing but added 2 to each side since - 2+2=0, and now it is on the other side.

    x=4, 2x means x times 2, so you would divide each side by 2.

    In short, put x on one side and number on the other by doing the opposite of what something says, remove multiplication or division by doing the opposite. You must always do it on both sides, or it is not an equation.
