    =r

    the diameter of the second sphere becomes 2d

    therefore the radius of second sphere=2r

    area of a sphere=4*pi*r^2

    the ratio of the two spheres = (4pi (2r) ^2) / (4pir^2)

    = (4pi4r^2) / 4pir^2

    cancelling 4pir^2, you get 4:1

    therefore the area of the second sphere is 4 times the first one
