with an expression like 3x6 you can separate parts of the expression using parentheses like: 3 (2+4)

you can find ways to separate a variable (like 6) into a sum of two addends

    ex 1+5

    0+6

    3+3

    so a distributive version of 3x6 is 3 (2+4) = (3x2) + (3x4)
