-3y-1 = 4y-5
Move 4y to the other side
Sign changes from + 4y to - 4y
-3y-4y-1 = 4y-4y-5
-3y-4y-1=-5
-7y-1 = - 5
Move - 1 to the other side
Sign changes from - 1 to + 1
-7y-1+1 = - 5+1
-7y = - 5+1
-7y = - 4
Divide both sides by - 7
-7y/-7 = - 4/-7
Cross out - 7 and - 7, divide both sides by 7. Then becomes 1*1*y = y
y = - 4/-7
Answer: y = 4/7
