If x varies directly as y, and x=8 when y=24, what is the value of x when y = 6

    Okay, so this means they're proportional. 8/24=x/6. You can do this with cross multiplication

    Make sure you have both the x's on the top and both the y's on the bottom. Then cross multiply. 8x6 divided by 24 = 2. Check your answer, and you'll see that 2/6=8/24. (2x4=8, 6x4=24)
