Johnny has $12 less than Sarah. Sarah has $35 less than Carla. In total, they have $143. How much money does each of them have?

    Amount with Carla = $ x

    Amount with Sarah = x - 35

    Amount with Johnny = x - 35 - 12

    x + x - 35 + x - 35 - 12 = 143

    3x - 82 = 143

    3x = 143 + 82

    Amount with Sarah = 75 - 35 = $ 40
