A local real estate magazine used the median instead of the mean when it reported the SAT score of the average student who attends Groveland High School. A graphical display of SAT scores of students who attend Groveland High School indicated that the data were strongly skewed to the right. Which of the following explains why, in this situation, the median is a more accurate indicator of the SAT score of the average student than the mean is

    Since the data is strongly skewed to the right this means that the big majority of the scores are above the mean. As a consecuence, the mean doesnt reflect the overall performance of the students, in reality this good performance (compared to the mean) is compensated by a few very poor grades (we may assume blank exams), which push the mean back. This is why the median is a more accurate indicator of the score of the average student, because the median is less affected by the swewedness than the median is.
