    the value of x and y is 3 and - 1 respectively.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    from the question

    let

    2x + 3y = 3 ... equation 1

    y = 8 - 3x ... equation 2

    put y = 8 - 3x in equation 1

    2x + 3y = 3 ... equation 1

    2x + 3 (8 - 3x) = 3

    2x + 24 - 9x = 3

    24 - 7x = 3

    24 = 3 + 7x

    24 - 3 = 7x

    21 = 7x

    divide both sides by 7

    x = 3

    put x = 3 in equation 2

    y = 8 - 3x ... equation 2

    y = 8 - 3 (3)

    y = 8 - 9

    y = - 1

    therefore the value of x and y is 3 and - 1 respectively.
