A total of 28 percent of american males smoke cigarettes, 7 percent smoke cigars, and 5 percent smoke both cigars and cigarettes. (a) what percentage of males smokes neither cigars nor cigarettes? (b) what percentage smokes cigars but not cigarettes?

    b - 9.5%

    for a you add them then subtract from 100

    (a) By drawing a Venn diagram, it can be seen that the percentage of males that smoke neither cigarettes nor cigars is:

    100 - (23 + 5 + 2) = 70%.

    (b) Also from the Venn diagram, we can see that the percentage that smoke cigars but not cigarettes = 2%.
