Janine inflated a ball to a radius of 18 cm and another ball to a radius of 12 cm. How much greater was the volume of air in the larger ball than the smaller ball? Use 3.14 to approximate pi. Round to the nearest hundredth if necessary.

    The answer is 17,182.08 cm³

    To calculate this we need to calculate the volume of each ball V2 - V1 = ?

    The volume of a sphere with radius r is:

    V = 4/3 π r³

    Ball 1:

    r1 = 18 cm

    V1 = 4/3 * 3.14 * 18³

    V1 = 24,416.64 cm³

    Ball 2:

    r2 = 12 cm

    V2 = 4/3 * 3.14 * 12³

    V2 = 7,234.56 cm³

    How much more water is in the larger balloon than in the smaller balloon:

    V2 - V1 = 24,416.64 cm³ - 7234.56 cm³

    = 17,182.08 cm³
