Exactly as you have posted the question, there are no

'real' numbers that can do the job.

By now, you may have encountered 'imaginary' numbers

in your math class ... numbers that involve the square root

    of - 1 (' i '), and complex numbers ... numbers that have

both a real part and an ' i ' part.

The numbers that add to - 4 and multiply to 32 are a pair of

    complex numbers. They are:

    -2 + i√28

    and

    -2 - i√28.

You could also write those as ...

    2 (-1 + i√7)

    and

    2 (-1 - i√7).

    Factors of 32

    1 x 32 = 32

    2 x 16 = 32

    4 x 8 = 32

Out of all the factors; 4 and 8 can add to - 4. It is all dependent on the sign of the number.

    It can be - 8 + 4 = - 4
