We can solve this this as if the greater than sign were an equal sign. we'll solve for b.
1. use the distributive property: 2 (b-8) = 2b-16
2. add 16 to both sides: 2b-16>12 = 2b>28
3. divide both sides by 2 to get b isolated: 2b>28 = b>14
therefore, your answer it b > 14
