X + 2y = - 9 ... x = - 2y - 9
5x + 6y = - 13
5 (-2y - 9) + 6y = - 13
-10y - 45 + 6y = - 13
-10y + 6y = - 13 + 45
-4y = 32
y = - 32/4
y = - 8
x + 2y = - 9
x + 2 (-8) = - 9
x - 16 = - 9
x = - 9 + 16
x = 7
solution is (7,-8)
