1. Multiply the whole second equation by 4. 24x-12y=-144 2. Subtract the second equation by the first equation. 24x+2y=52 - 24x+12y=144 3. Subtract vertically. 14y=196 4. Solve for y using division. y=14. 5. Plug y into one of the original equations to get x. 24x+2 (14) = 52 6. Solve for x by multiplying 2*14, then subtracting and dividing. x=1.
