    After the first 230 hours it doubles, 2*1 million = 2 million.

    After the next 230 hours, that 460 hours later it doubles again = 2*2 = 4 million.

    After the next 230 hours, that is 690 hours later, it doubles again = 2*4 = 8 million.

    Population = 8 million.

    It is 4,000,000 because if it doubles every 230 hours it would be 2,000,000 and if it doubles 690 hours you would just add 2 million more.
