    2 (x - 2) + 1/2 (6x + 4) = 4x + 1

    Distribute 2 and 1/2 inside the parentheses.

    2x - 4 + 3x + 2 = 4x + 1

    Combine like terms.

    5x - 2 = 4x + 1

    Add 2 to both sides.

    5x = 4x + 3

    Subtract 4x from both sides.

    x = 3
