    Ralph had 600 tomato plants in the beginning.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Consider the provided information.

    let x is the number of units.

    The number of tomato plants in Inessa's garden is 5x

    The number of tomato plants in Ralph's garden is 6x

    It is given that half of Inessa's tomato plants are taken from her garden and replanted into Ralph's garden.

    Therefore,

    1/2 * (5x)

    After replanted Ralph's garden had 850 tomato plants.

    Therefore,

    (1/2) (5x) + 6x = 850

    5x + 12x = 1700

    17x = 1700

    x = 100

    The number of tomato plants in Ralph's garden is 6x.

    Substitute the value of x in 6x.

    6 (100) = 600

    Hence, Ralph had 600 tomato plants in the beginning.
