The cookie recipe needs 3/4 cups of sugar and 1/8 cup of butter. Alice puts in 1 cup of butter by mistake. How much sugar will be needed?

    Let's set up a proportion.

    Let s = sugar

    (1/8) / 1 = (3/4) / s

    (3/4) = s/8

    (3/4) (8) = s

    6 cups = s
