    x = 5 or x = - 1

    equate f (x) and g (x)

    x² - 7x + 3 = - 3x + 8 (subtract ( - 3x + 8) from both sides)

    x² - 4x - 5 = 0 ← in standard form

    (x - 5) (x + 1) = 0

    equate each factor to zero and solve for x

    x - 5 = 0 ⇒ x = 5

    x + 1 = 0 ⇒ x = - 1
