    Area = * Longer Side * x * Shorter side*

    44 = (x + 7) * x

    44 = x^2 + 7x

    0 = x^2 + 7x - 44

    0 = (x + 11) (x - 4)

    0 = x + 11 OR 0 = x - 4

    x = - 11*impossible * OR x = 4

    So x = 4
