First, find the LCM, or the least common denominator, for the denominators 3 and 5.

The LCM of 3 and 5 is 15, as 3 * 5 is 15 and those two numbers don't have a common denominator lower than 15.

Now multiply the numerators as well:

    2*3 = 6

    2/3 = 6/15

    1*3 = 3

    1/5 = 3/15

The question then asks for what fraction of the container of Chinese food did George and Silvia eat together, so now use addition:

    Add 6/15 and 3/15.

    6/15 + 3/15 = 9/15
