First combine like terms:
6x - 8x = - 2x
4x + 22 = - 2x
Now add 2x to both sides:
4x + 2x = 6x
-2x + 2x = 0
6x + 22 = 0
Now subtract 22 from both sides:
22 - 22 = 0
0 - 22 = - 22
6x = - 22
Divide both sides by 6:
6x : 6 = x
-22 : 6 = - 11/3 or - 3 1/3
The answer is x = - 11/3 or - 3 1/3
