At the dog show there are 4 times as many boxes as spaniels. if there are a total of 30 dogs how many dogs are spaniels

    So the equation would be 4x+x=30. So since they have the same variable, x and 4x, you add them together to get 5x=30. Then you divide by both sides and get x=6. So there are 6 spaniels.
