    Width = 9 inches, length = 12 inches.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the width = x inches, then its length x+3 inches.

    Perimeter = 2x + 2 (x + 3) inches so

    2x + 2 (x + 3) = 42

    4x + 6 = 42

    4x = 36

    x = 36/4 = 9

    So the width is 9 in and length = 9 + 3 = 12 inches.

    You are correct.
