    Remark

    The key to this question is to get the original price (36) down to 29.52. In other words, what % will when multiplied by 36 will result in 29.52?

    Solution

    36 * (x/100) = 29.52 Multiply both sides by 100

    36 * x = 29.52 * 100 The 100 on the left disappears.

    36 * x = 2952 The decimal disappears. Divide by 36

    x = 2952/36

    x = 82%

    That is not your answer. That just tells you what % of 36 is that would give 29.52

    Answer

    The % discount is 100 - 82 = 18%. That is the % discount.
