The total cost for two family cars was $71,1482 the cost of one car was $38,295 write an equation using a variable to represent the cost of the family's other car.

    let x = the other car's cost.

    You know the total spent and the cost of one car. So logically, if you subtract the two you'd get the price of the second car.

    You can do $38,295 + c = $71,1482.
