Carmine buys 8 plates for $1 each. He also buys 4 bowls. Each bowl costs twice as much as each plate. The store is having a sale that gives Carmine $3 off the bowls. Write a numerical expression that shows how much he spent?

    (8*1) + 4 (2*1-3) = 4

    8 plates for $1

    Bowls are 2x $1 and - $3 per bowl (they are selling them for - $1)

    plus 4 bowls for 2x $1 less $3 per bowl
