x (-7 - x) = 12

-7x - x² = 12

x² + 7x + 12 = 0

(x+4) (x + 3) = 0

x+4 = 0 or x+3 = 0

so : x = - 4 or x = - 3

-3 + (-4) = - 7

-3 times - 4=12

negative plus a negative is still a negative. negative times a negative is a positive.
