    3 (x + 1) + 2 (x + 5) use distributive property

    = (3) (x) + (3) (1) + (2) (x) + (2) (5) = 3x + 3 + 2x + 10 combine like terms

    = (3x + 2x) + (3 + 10) = 5x + 13
