    Cross multiplying

    m (x2-x1) = y2-y1

    mx2-mx1 = y2-y1

    Adding y1 to both sides of the equation we have;

    mx2-mx1 + y1 = y2-y1+y1

    y2 = mx2-mx1 + y1

    y2 = m (x2-x1) + y1

    This gives the resulting equation to solve for y2
