    1.

    2 3/4 + 1 1/3

    8/4 = 2

    + 3/4

    = 11/4

    2.

    1 1/3

    3/3 = 1

    + 1/3

    = 4/3

    3. 11/4 + 4/3

    4. Find common denominator

    4 * 3 = 12

    5. Convert 11/4 to?/12 = 33/12

    (4 goes into 12: 3 times. 3 * 11 = 33

    6. Convert 4/3 to?/12 = 16/12

    (3 goes into 12: 4 times. 4 * 4 = 16

    33/12 + 16/12 = 49/12

    49/12 = 4.08333 or 4 1/12 cups
