An animal shelter had a ratio of dogs to cats that's 3:2. If there are 30 cats at the shelter, how many dogs are their?

    3 : 2 = x : 30

    *inverse multiplication

    2x = 3 * 30

    2x = 90

    *divide both sides by 2

    x = 45 dogs
