A transform boundary makes huge faults in the ground. A transform boundary occurs when two tectonic plates slide past each other, like two cars moving past each other, headed in opposite directions in a narrow country lane.

The plates kind of grind against each other as each plate slides past the other. The friction creates great stress causing portions of the rock to break. The place where the rocks break is called a fault. An example of such a fault is the San Andreas Fault in California.
