Maria is purchasing a sweater marked 40% off. The original price of the sweater is $60. The sales tax is 6%, what is the total amount she will pay for the sweater?

    40% off means she is paying 60% of the original price:

    60 x 0.60 = 36.00

    The sale price is $36

    Now add the tax:

    36 x 1.06 = 38.16

    She pays $38.16 total
