Austin is going to the movie theater. It is 3 and3/5 miles from his house. Austin Takes his scooter, but it breaks down 2/3 of the way to the theater. how far is Austin from his house?

    What I would do is find a similar denominator for 3/5 and 2/3 (15).

    Next, I would multiply 5x3 = 15 and 3x5 = 15. If you do something to the bottom then, you need to do it to the top.

    3x3 = 9

    2x5 = 10

    Finally you subtract each other but, if the second number is higher than the first and the first has a whole, you add the whole.

    2 24/15 - 10/15 = 2 14/15

    So, Austin is 2 and 14/15 miles away from his house.
