An irrational number multiplied, divided, added, or subtracted with a rational number, (or the other way around) is always irrational.

Since a is irrational, 1/a is 1 / a rational number, which will be irrational.

1 is a rational number because 1 can go into 1 when dividing. Irrational numbers are mostly decimals.
