Five times the difference of a number and 2 is the same as 2 increased by five times the number plus twice the number. Find the number.

    5 (n-2) = 2+5n + 2n fits your equation. After multiplication, we have

    5x - 10 = 2 + 7n

    Combining like terms, we get:

    -12 = 2n, so that n = - 6
