Some volunteers set up a table with cups of water for marathoners to grab as they run by. They start the day with 6 gallons of water. How many gallons do they have left after passing out 40 cups

If you know how to convert cups into gallons you would know that it is 16 cups in a gallon so if you divide 16 into 40 you would get 2 with 8 left over. So knowing this it would be 2 and a half gallons passed out. 2 and a half minus 6 equals 3 1/2.
