    There are 6 colered chips in the box

    Step-by-step explanation:

    To solve the problem we have to try to pass the words to simpler equations

    t = total

    r = red chips

    b = blue chips

    y = yellow chips

    t - 4 = r

    t - 4 = b

    t - 4 = y

    r + b + y = t

    now that we made the equations we can work with them to find the value of t

    (t - 4) + (t - 4) + (t - 4) = t

    3t - 12 = t

    3t - t = 12

    2t = 12

    t = 12/2

    t = 6
