The commutative property Addition states that you can change the order of addends in a sum. The associative property of addition states that you can change the grouping of addends in a sum. Use an example to show how the commutative property of addition and the associative property of addition apply to adding decimals.

    Comm. = 1.3+1.5=1.5+1.3

    Assoc. (1.3+1.5) + 1.7=1.3 + (1.5+1.7)
