    If we have a negative exponent of a number, we can get rid of the minus and make the exponent positive by expressing the number as a fraction like "1/x^n". (In other words, 1 divided by the number with the now-positive exponent).

    So, this would be 1/3^2

    And we know the square of 3 is 9, so our answer would be 1/9.
