    Answer: We can determine that there is an inverse relation between price of gasoline and quantity of gasoline purchased.

    Step-by-step explanation: In everyday mathematics we deal with different values, and very often we usually have two values (and sometimes more than two) that are related to each other in one way or another.

    When two values are related to each other, there is usually a measure of their relationship and this can be a direct relationship or inverse relationship.

    Where there is a direct relationship, in mathematics its simply referred to as a direct variation, that is, when one value increases, the other value also increases. And when one value decreases, the other value likewise decreases.

    On the other hand, when the relationship is indirect, in mathematics it is simply referred to as inverse variation, that is, as one value increases the other value decreases, and vice versa.

    When the price per gallon of gasoline decreases, people buy more. If we call the price of gasoline P and the amount being purchased as Q, then it means when P increases then Q decreases and when P reduces then Q increases.

    The product of two inversely related variables is always equal to a constant (same value always) that is not zero.

    This means P x Q = K

    Also we can determine that

    P = K/Q

    Likewise we can determine that

    Q = K/P
